Thank you for your interest in this research study. I am a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Political Science at the University of Utah. I am conducting a study on sexual identity, religion, and mental health and wellbeing. I am seeking individuals ages 18 and older who are willing to participate in an interview as part of this study.
If you identify as LGBTQ and are currently involved with the LDS church or have been involved with the LDS church, or if you are a parent of an LGBTQ child and are currently a member of, or have been involved with the LDS church, I would love to talk with you. There is very little information regarding the ways in which individuals in the state of Utah navigate life as both a sexual minority and as someone who has been involved with, or is currently involved with the LDS church.
I am especially interested in these issues for two reasons: 1) both sexual identity and religious affiliation receive frequent press and speculation in larger conversations about mental health, well-being, and suicide in the state of Utah, and 2) although these topics receive quite a bit of press, individual’s experiences at the intersections of sexuality and religion are often much more complex, complicated, and nuanced than they are treated by the media and general public.
I would love to hear about your experiences and thoughts.
If you are interested in learning more, or would consider being a participant in an individual interview, please fill out this brief form. Our correspondence, and any level of your participation in the study, will be kept completely confidential. And, of course, this is completely voluntary. Please let me know if this sounds of interest to you. Participation in this study would not require any travel on your part; I am more than happy to meet you at a location of your choosing for an interview.
